Privacy policy

Last updated 21 October 2026

The short version

Your poems live on your phone. syllabe has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and we run no servers that receive your writing. We cannot read your poems, and we never sell or share anything about you.

What syllabe keeps, and where

  • Your poems, drafts, Vault scraps and settings are saved inside the app on your phone.
  • Photos and voice notes you add are saved as files inside the app on your phone. They are never uploaded anywhere.
  • If you uninstall syllabe, Android deletes all of it from your phone.

Phone backup

If Google backup is switched on in your Android settings, Android may include your syllabe text (poems, scraps and settings) in your phone's backup to your Google account. Photos and voice notes are left out. This backup is run by Google under its own privacy policy, and you control it in your phone's settings.

Google Drive backup (optional)

syllabe can back up your text to your own Google Drive. It is off until you switch it on in Settings.

  • When you switch it on, you sign in with Google and allow one permission: a hidden folder in your Drive that only syllabe can see. syllabe cannot see or open any other files in your Drive.
  • syllabe saves one backup file there with your poems, scraps and settings. Your passcode, photos and voice notes are never included.
  • syllabe reads the email address of the Google account you pick, only to show you which account is connected.
  • The backup goes straight from your phone to your Google Drive. It never passes through us.
  • You can switch it off at any time, and delete the backup from your Drive. See Your data for how.

syllabe's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Camera, microphone and photos

syllabe asks for the camera, microphone or your photos only when you add a photo or record a voice note to a scrap. What you capture stays inside the app on your phone.

App lock and fingerprint

If you set a passcode, syllabe stores a scrambled version of it (a salted hash) on your phone, never the code itself. Fingerprint and face unlock are handled by Android. syllabe never sees or stores your fingerprint or face.

When you share

Nothing leaves syllabe unless you send it. When you share a card or export a file, Android's share sheet sends it to the app you choose, and that app's own privacy policy applies from there.

Children

syllabe is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects how your data is handled, the app will tell you before it applies.
